Handmade Sleeping Baby Mermaid in Shell: Cornish Beach Treasure

These delightful little mermaids are fast asleep, snoozing in the sunshine. They are in little rockpools in their shells, and are surrounded by all the bits of treasure they have collected – tiny shells and bits of seaglass.

I thoroughly enjoyed making these two little beauties. I cast the mermaids in resin, and they were handpainted in reverse. I have used shimmering colours, that catch the light and change slightly depending on the angle viewed. Once I’d made the mermaids, I set them into the ‘water’ with their little bits of treasure. All the treasure has been collected on Cornish beaches, so they are perfect keepsakes from Cornwall. I think they would make wonderful gifts, perhaps for children as a memento of a happy holiday in Cornwall. Maybe for someone with a sea, or beach theme. Or someone who just loves Cornwall! Each one is completely unique, and every time I sell one, I make another.
